Emil and the Detectives (1964)

Disney family film. US version
Year: 1964
Year in film: 1950s ?
Country: USA
Who in clothing: boy ~14 Tyrolean clothes, hat
Who in clothing 2: boy ~9 Lederhosen, sailor suit ?, shorts
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Clothing occurence: low ?
Rating:  4/10 ?
Rating: ****
Comment: I never heard of this US remake until I found Bryan Russell (Emil here) in “The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin” (Western blog rating 3). Pic from the trailer. Sorry, currently no better pics. At least one blonde boy in rather short, grey, buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders (sometimes under a pullover). Maybe more (supporting) actors?

I don’t know the complete movie, yet, but there’s at least one teen boy in a traditional, dark brown alpine jacket and a green Tyrolean hat. Most boys in shorts including longer, light grey ones and dark blue. At least in a 2013 London stage play also one boy in a dark sailor suit or sailor-style jacket.

Some handsome, also blonde boys, but I have to watch the complete movie first. The 1954 and the 1931 versions are probably much better (both rating 5).

Rating ~4 for now only.

Update: Unheil in den Bergen

I’ve just found this movie on YouTube. I already had an entry, but previously no pics at all.

I only noticed 2 brief scenes. With and without hat, mainly at the beginning. Longer buckskin Lederhosen. Also help farm worg kneeing on the grass.

Also a woman in overalls and a girl in shortalls (soon to be updated on my other blog).

Previously rating 6, now ~3. 9 yo boy even looks younger. Main entry at

Update: Apenstreken

I now have seen this complete movie. Mainly of interest (next to the boy with the long Navy-style collar, at 17 minutes, see main entry): one boy in a short, dark blue sailor suit, white stockings and a shorter collar flap. There are also some girls in sailor dresses and/or similar including one at school in a medium blue dress and a large and long collar.

I also like the traditional Dutch clothes, especially the handsome, blonde boy with the blue shirt and wooden clogs.

Pics 1+2 at the very end, pic 3 at 52, pic 4 at 2 minutes.

Unfortunately rather few sailor suit scenes.

Also updated on my bib overalls blog (rating 5). Soon on my bedroom and pigtails blog. Main entry, still rating 6 at

Comment: Searching for “One of the Smiths” (see my bib overalls blog), I found this vid on YouTube. Pic 1 showing freckled Jay R. Smith, maybe behind the scenes of “The Glorious Fourth” (1927, silent film). Interesting sailor suit, unknown light color, maybe light green?

Pic 2 probably showing Dickie Moore, unknown movie, 1932 or 1933. Rating ~3-4. I think rather few good scenes in this documentary.

Sorry, I’m running out of Lederhosen movies.

Three Men in a Tub (Our Gang)

Classic comedy short film (Little Rascals)
Year: 1938
Year in film: 1930s
Country: USA
Who in clothing: Porky ~5, sailor suit
Who in clothing 2: Darla ~7, sailor dress
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Clothing occurence: low+ ?
Rating:  2/10
Rating: **
Comment: One boy in a long, white sailor suit and short blue collar, I think it’s Porky. Spanky in dark pants and a white sailor’s cap and Darla in a short sailor dress (white blouse, blue skirt and white cap). Rectangled collar with big Navy stars on front. Also other boys at least in sailor’s hats including Gary Jasgur and I think Buckwheat (also in a straw hat).

1-reel short film (10 minutes, originally in b&w) and maybe even fewer sailor suit scenes.

There are better movies.

So rating 2-3 only.

Update 2: Kartoffeln mit Stippe

As announced, I made some more pics, to show the other actors, the front of the purple/brown suit and the stockings of Billi (Benjamin Zobrys).

Pic 1 from DVD 1, other pics from the funfair episode on disc 2.

Most supporting actors are shown from a distance like the 3 boys in different sailor suits. There are even some more boys. One sitting watching a puppet theater (rear view). Pic 4 showing one boy fighting. But most of interest is of course Billi. And I haven’t noticed girls in sailor dresses at the fair. Only later one relative. Pic 4 also showing the main character in pigtails and a straw hat as well.

Main entry, rating 10

Update: Kartoffeln mit Stippe

Some more, better and larger pics of this great series, rating 10. Most notably Benjamin Zobrys (pics 1+2).

Pic 2 is from disc 1 showing him in a purple or medium brown sailor suit. Long V neck line and a matching tie. Both with a short collar flap and a straw hat. No dickey but reguar shirt. Long white stockings (pic 1). Other pics from disc 2. The girl also don’t have a dickey.

Most and best scenes at a fair. Some other boys in sailor suits but all very brief and from a distance. In pic 4 there’s one boy in shorts with H-style suspenders but probably no Lederhosen. Maybe I will make some more entries. Also on my pigtails blog, rating 7 with very long pigtails. Also showing the rear of the girl in the sailor suit.

Comment: One boy, probably main character played by Indars Lacis in a dark blue (or black) sailor suit. Short collar flap, matching cap, striped dickey. Few scenes. Also other kids/boys in historical clothes

Also a spanking scene but not in the sailor suit. And boys and girls in a sauna.

Comment: After finding Ulf Schweikhardt in “Der Führerschein” (bedroom blog, rating 4), I found this series. Previously I only had the 1959 movie (b&w, rating 7) and the 2008 movie, rating 3. Raban Bieling.

I have checked the complete series at high speed and the only notable close-up scenes are in ep 9 (pics 1+2, set in 1871) probably showing Kai. Also without the straw hat. Long, light blue stripes suit with a regular, dark blue collar (3 stripes), white dickey unstriped.

Some very few kids including younger boys in the background at a beach in ep. 5 (pic 2, light blue blouse and white collar, set in 1855 ?) and ep 2 (medium blue blouse, dark pants, set in the 1840s ?). But both very briefly running School scenes in ep 10 but none in sailor suits (but other historical clothes). Also women in sailor-style dresses. Nice costumes.

Boys are very young. (Very few) good scenes.

So rating 3 only.
