Dog Heaven (Our Gang)

Classic comedy short film, silent (Little Rascals / Our Gang)
Year: 1927
Year in film: 1920s
Country: USA
Who in clothing: Jay ~11, Wheezer ~2
Who in clothing 2:
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Clothing occurrence: medium- ?
Rating:  3/10
Rating: ***
Comment: Jay R. Smith in a short sailor suit including striped dickey and short collar flap. But pants and cap don’t match the blouse. Also little Wheezer in a sailor suit and straw hat. Unknown colors. Might be (partly) green? Wheezer’s collar maybe light blue?

Also a nice boys kissing scene (Jay and Jackie Condon).

Quite interesting and funny but there are better movies. 31 minutes including the text boards.

For the sailor suits rating ~3-4.

Update: Raggedy Man

I have completely rechecked this movie (at high speed), also soon to be updated on my bib overalls blog.

Nice acting of Henry Thomas (“E.T.”) and his younger film brother. 2 more pics, to better show the front and also their pants. Previously headshot/rear view only showing the Navy collar flaps.

Henry Thomas also in dark blue pants combined with the white blouse. And the younger boy also in bib overalls and the sailor cap. Some more others (mainly men, maybe some kids but from a distance only) in sailor suits later at a fair. More scenes than assumed (2nd half only).

Also nice bedroom scene (both sharing one bed), soon on my other blog, rating ~5-6.

Main entry here, still rating 5

Year: 1980
Year in film: 1900s, 1930s-1943

Who in clothing: boys ~10, sailor suits
Who in clothing 2: others, hist clothes

Clothing occurrence: low- ?
Rating:  3/10 ?
Rating: ***
Comment: I only noticed one boy in a white sailor suit with blue collar and 3 stripes  (pic 2 bottom right). Also some few kids in 1900s or 1910s clothes including straw hats but rather few scenes as well. Mainly grown-ups shown there (ladies). Rating ~2-3 for this boy. I also found a b&w publicity pic with 10 yo Marcel Oktábec (probably the same as in pic 1) in a black or dark sailor suit with a white collar and 2 stripes and also another suit with a lace collar or similar. But obviously few scenes as well.

Also soon on my bedroom blog.

Directed by Ota Koval.

Rating 2-3 only.

Update: Die Kinder vom Alstertal

Next to sailor suits, Merle (girl on left) and Niklas also wore Lederhosen with H-style suspenders at least in s1e5. How could I miss this?

Also playing in the hay. Also recently updated on my bib overalls blog, rating 5.

But I don’t like these young kids.

Main entry here, rating 3

Update: Our Gang Follies of 1938

I recently found a colorized version of this one. Even German dubbed and not available when posting this in 2011. Also updated on my bib overalls blog. Next to other movies including underwear scenes.

Next to Alfalfa (pic 2) also some other boys in dark sailor suits and white caps.

Main entries, rating 6

Fire Fighters (1922) Our Gang

Clothing occurrence: low

Comment: Elmo Billings (pic 1 on left next to brother Richard Billings, Kenneth Johnson and little Jackie Condon) in a jacket with a collar and a cap and Peggy Cartwright in a black or dark sailor suit (not dress) and matching dickey with 3 stripes.

Also a boy (George Ward aka George Warde) in sailor suit, other blog, rating 3.

Handsome boys including George Ward, but there are better movies.

So rating 2-3 only. I almost have checked all non-MGM movies. One of the best is The Big Show (1923) which is on the same DVD, I recently bought.

Main overview entry

Also note my posts on my overalls blog for long johns and overalls and on my shiny shorts blog for other Our Gang movies.

Comment: One boy, probably Jackie Williams in a sailor suit, long pants with suspenders, short blue collar flap and a green cap.

Also one boy in bib overalls (soon on my other blog) and boys in Cowboy and Indians costumes at the beginning.

Interesting and not bad, but for the brief scenes rating 3-4 only.

Update: Die Powenzbande

After 6 1/2 years, I have briefly rechecked this series. There are some boys in sailor suits (at least 4 in different ones, I didn’t even noticed before, adding tag sailor suits) and other historical clothes and costumes (H-style suspenders but not Lederhosen) and also ladies in sailor-style dresses. But the only notable scene is this big fighting scene in episode 2. Also shirtless in swim wear (same episode). 2 boys also being tied together (standing).

Most collars are wide but short. Some good scenes, but mostly from a distance. There are better movies.

Main entry, still rating 6

Emil and the Detectives (1964)

Disney family film. US version
Year: 1964
Year in film: 1950s ?
Country: USA
Who in clothing: boy ~14 Tyrolean clothes, hat
Who in clothing 2: boy ~9 Lederhosen, sailor suit ?, shorts
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Clothing occurence: low ?
Rating:  4/10 ?
Rating: ****
Comment: I never heard of this US remake until I found Bryan Russell (Emil here) in “The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin” (Western blog rating 3). Pic from the trailer. Sorry, currently no better pics. At least one blonde boy in rather short, grey, buckskin Lederhosen with suspenders (sometimes under a pullover). Maybe more (supporting) actors?

I don’t know the complete movie, yet, but there’s at least one teen boy in a traditional, dark brown alpine jacket and a green Tyrolean hat. Most boys in shorts including longer, light grey ones and dark blue. At least in a 2013 London stage play also one boy in a dark sailor suit or sailor-style jacket.

Some handsome, also blonde boys, but I have to watch the complete movie first. The 1954 and the 1931 versions are probably much better (both rating 5).

Rating ~4 for now only.

Update: Unheil in den Bergen

I’ve just found this movie on YouTube. I already had an entry, but previously no pics at all.

I only noticed 2 brief scenes. With and without hat, mainly at the beginning. Longer buckskin Lederhosen. Also help farm worg kneeing on the grass.

Also a woman in overalls and a girl in shortalls (soon to be updated on my other blog).

Previously rating 6, now ~3. 9 yo boy even looks younger. Main entry at
