Info 304: Updates

After adding the recent entry to my rare movies list (and posts without pics), I’ve checked some more on that list and found these complete movies and added some pics.

The Case Against Mrs. Ames (pictured, boy, sailor suits, rating 4)

Ein dreifach Hoch dem Sanitätsgefreiten Neumann (women sailor dresses, rating 2)

Pause für Wanzka

DFF TV drama, family film
Year: 1990
Year in film: 1961
Country: East Germany
Who in clothing: boys ~9-11 ? Lederhosen
Who in clothing 2: boys shorts
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Clothing occurrence: medium- ?
Rating:  6/10 ?
Rating: ******
Comment: Some boys in Lederhosen including one chubby, redhaired boy. Without suspenders. Probably buckskin (with patina). Also others in shorts and blue scarves.

Quite new DVD release. Sorry, currently no pics not even trailers available. Probably worth buying.

1968 novel by Alfred Wellm. Filmed in 1989 and 1990, set in 1961. Maybe almost like a Heimatfilm.

Rating ~6-7 for now, maybe even much higher. Needs to be rechecked later.

Dog Heaven (Our Gang)

Classic comedy short film, silent (Little Rascals / Our Gang)
Year: 1927
Year in film: 1920s
Country: USA
Who in clothing: Jay ~11, Wheezer ~2
Who in clothing 2:
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Clothing occurrence: medium- ?
Rating:  3/10
Rating: ***
Comment: Jay R. Smith in a short sailor suit including striped dickey and short collar flap. But pants and cap don’t match the blouse. Also little Wheezer in a sailor suit and straw hat. Unknown colors. Might be (partly) green? Wheezer’s collar maybe light blue?

Also a nice boys kissing scene (Jay and Jackie Condon).

Quite interesting and funny but there are better movies. 31 minutes including the text boards.

For the sailor suits rating ~3-4.

Main overview list

Frau Holle (1961) Now on TV

Comment: Some few, mainly younger boys at least at the beginning in Lederhosen including H-style suspenders. Now on SWR.

Needs to be checked more carefully.

Rating ~5-6 for now.

Again, a Happy New Year!

Update: Raggedy Man

I have completely rechecked this movie (at high speed), also soon to be updated on my bib overalls blog.

Nice acting of Henry Thomas (“E.T.”) and his younger film brother. 2 more pics, to better show the front and also their pants. Previously headshot/rear view only showing the Navy collar flaps.

Henry Thomas also in dark blue pants combined with the white blouse. And the younger boy also in bib overalls and the sailor cap. Some more others (mainly men, maybe some kids but from a distance only) in sailor suits later at a fair. More scenes than assumed (2nd half only).

Also nice bedroom scene (both sharing one bed), soon on my other blog, rating ~5-6.

Main entry here, still rating 5

Wiltener Sängerknaben

Boys choir, Lederhosen
Year: 2015, 2017, other
Year in film: 2010s
Country: Austria
Who in clothing: boys ~10-12, Lederhosen
Who in clothing 2:
Available on DVD: yes (partly)
I own: no
Clothing occurrence: often
Rating:  4/10 ?
Rating: ****
Comment: Thanks for this suggestion! I’m not sure if I have noticed them before. But I don’t like these red jackets. Lederhosen are long and dark. One of few Boys choir singing in Lederhosen (also on Christmas).

Pic 1 from a 2017 clip called “Der Zauber der Wiltener Sängerknaben Von La Scala nach Shanghai (Trailer)”. Aired at the 70th annivery; obviously the pic is from 2017 (or 2016) as well.

Pic 2 is from the 2015 Christmas concert “Weihnachten mit den Wiltener Sängerknaben”. Lederhosen but same church-like setting than the Vienna Boys Choir and others and is not a Bergweihnacht.

I have to research for earlier clips and members.

Rating ~4 for now.

I wish all my readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Update 2: Alfons Zitterbacke (1966)

Has been aired yesterday, but I only have seen the end. Even much better than I remembered. Some very good close-up scenes (also showing briefly the red underwear of Alfons through the legs). Also another, even better close-up scene of a boy in smooth finished Lederhosen at 48 minutes. There are also several other boys walking downstairs, but very brief scenes as well and most or all others in buckskin leather or shorts. Pic 2 is at around 55 minutes.

The blue overalls of the girl is also better than remembered. Some good sitting scenes.

Main entry, still rating 7 (I don’t like this boy and his haircut)

Mary Poppins Returns

Disney family film/musical, sequel
Year: 2018
Year in film: ~1930s
Country: USA
Who in clothing: Georgie ~7, Mary ~34, sailor suit
Who in clothing 2: boys underwear
Available on DVD: not yet
I own: no
Clothing occurrence: low+ ??
Rating:  5/10 ?
Rating: *****
Comment: At least blonde Joel Dawson in a short, white sailor suit, light blue collar (2 stripes) and cap, white shorts and stockings, also sitting, red scarf. Also Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins in a green/blue sailor dress underwater. Also the kids in white underwear (short union suit) and other historical clothes. Should be set in the 1930s (like the novel) .

I don’t know the complete movie, yet (new in cinemas Dec 20th). I always prefer the Classics (which is set in the 1910s and I think doesn’t have real sailor suits). Needs to be rechecked. There are also musicals and probably several stage plays.

Also soon on my bedroom blog, rating ~5.

The boy is young. The sailor suits quite unusual. Rating ~5 for now. Pic 2 is from behind the scenes, others from trailer.

Claudius – Boy of Ancient Rome

Educational short film Encyclopaedia Britannica, 16 min.
Year: 1963
Year in film: ~100s ?
Country: USA
Who in clothing: boys ~12, hist clothes
Who in clothing 2: others, hist clothes
Available on DVD: no ?
I own: no
Clothing occurrence: always *
Rating:  4/10 ?
Rating: ****
Comment: A bit off topic, but I recently found this checking educational short films, especially from Encyclopædia Britannica (EB Films) for my bib overalls blog (list 62).

Some handsome boys including Claudius (on left) and his slave Vistus (on right).

Available on Directed by William Deneen.

I have a list of some other traditional clothes of different periods.

Update 2: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

I have completely rechecked this movie. Although hard to recognize, I now think that these are real Lederhosen out of buckskin or similar leather.

Rather few scenes, as he’s the first kid removed from the party.

I like chubby boys, but somehow I think there are better movies. Obviously at least partly filmed in Munich but no others in Lederhosen.

The movie itself is also quite poor (especially compared to the remake with much more handsome actors and CGI). I don’t like the 70s and the haircuts.

Now also on my Western blog. Main entry, still rating 3 (no need for more pics). There’s also a girl in a rare, red sailor dress.
