Comment: At least this teen girl (maybe Clare Walker as main character or Gillian Bailey?) in a long, dark blue sailor dress and a light grey collar (long collar flap). Also boys acting in historical clothes including Simon Gipps-Kent (The Tomorrow Peoeple, also check out my bedroom blog). Maybe also some in sailor suits?

I saw a trailer on my recent purchase (“Wish You Well”, see my overalls blog), but I don’t know/remember this complete series.

Rating 3 for now. Novels by Noel Streatfeild.

Comment: At least one girl, probably Chloe Franks in a long, medium blue sailor dress, with a white collar, 2 thick stripes and matching dickey. Also in white sleeveless shirt. And at least 2 boys (Benjie Bolgar, Andrew Harison (The Secret Garden 1975) in historical clothes including knickers and caps.

A quite typical Disney movie of it’s time. 1900s setting in the UK (coal mine scenes).

I haven’t seen the complete movie, yet. There are definitely better movies.

For the sailor dress, rating 3 for now only. US title: The Littlest Horse Thieves.

One Good Turn (1955)

Comedy film starring Norman Wisdom

Year in film: 1954
Country: UK
Who in clothing: Jimmy ~7 ? sailor suit
Who in clothing 2:
Available on DVD: yes

Clothing occurence: low ?
Rating:  4/10
Rating: ****
Comment: I think Keith Gilman in a short, dark (blue) sailor suit and a typical sailor collar with 3 stripes. Obviously set in the UK in the 1950s what is very late for a sailor suit.

Quite interesting. Also other boys shown like in shorts and/or knickers, but I think none in sailor suits. Directed by John Paddy Carstairs.

Also soon on my bedroom blog (many beds at an orphanage).

For the sailor suit, rating 4.

The Adventures of Black Beauty (1972)

Family series, 52 ep

Who in clothing: Kevin ~13, knickers

Clothing occurence: often
Rating:  3/10 ?

Comment: Sorry, a bit off topic as I’m running out of Lederhosen movies. At least historical clothes in or around the 1870s. Roderick Shaw (1958-1996) in knickers and a vest (also other pants including beige and grey. Long?) and teen girls and women in dresses, maybe sailor-style and also straw hats. Also other boys and girls.

I don’t know/remember the complete series. Looks a bit old fashioned and mainly with and for teen girls and horses.

Maybe not bad for the plot and these days. Pic from s1e1.

Rating 3-4 (as off topic).

Sound of Music UK Tour 2011 musical

Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. Jason Donovan
Year: 2011
Year in film: 1930s
Country: UK
Who in clothing: boys ~ 10, 12 Lederhosen
Who in clothing 2: boys, girls sailor suits

Clothing occurence: medium ?
Rating:  7/10 ?
Rating: *******
Comment: The 2 von Trapp boys in long buckskin Lederhosen with H-style suspenders, dark greased hair. Probably also in sailor suits like the 5 girls. Pic obviously showing other kids in I think 2009. Much better is the 2011 Tour (in May ?).

Searching for pics of the Disney movie “Donovan’s Kid” (Pigtails and Western blog, rating up to 7), I found this musical starring Jason Donovan and Verity Rushworth. I don’t know the names of the boys. First, it was shown in (at least) Dublin, Glasgow and Leeds (and London ?). And often there are around 3 casts of each kid. Who can help? At least these boys appeared in Dublin.

Some pics are on the Web like on zimbio. As usual, I don’t use copyrighted pics from other sites. (Search for Sound of Music Donovan).

There are several other musical versions. Some more coming soon.

Rating 7 for now for this one. I currently have a 2008 Dutch and 2011 German version. And of course the original movies including Die Trapp Familie.

The Chippendiddys

Dancing documentary
Year: 1995
Year in film: 1990s
Country: UK
Who in clothing: Sid ~10, sailor suit
Who in clothing 2: boys, other clothes
Available on DVD: yes

Clothing occurence: low ?
Rating:  6/10 ?
Rating: ******
Comment: At least Sid Smith in a (long) black sailor suit, a very long blue collar and a white cap. The collar seems to be attached onto the jacket.

I found a very brief clip on one of my recordings. I don’t know/don’t remember the complete movie. Maybe the complete group wearing sailor suits as well? But if so, then probably very few scenes.

I haven’t found pics or streaming clips showing that and have to recheck it later, when I have more time. One redhaired boy is very handsome but they are also very thin.

Rating 6 for now for the sailor suit, more for the rest.

Update: My Boy Jack (previously unknown)

Some time ago I found a pic like pic 1 on the web but untitled. I somehow thought of a German or Austrian movie but it’s “My Boy Jack”. The man on the left is Daniel Radcliffe. I already have an entry (rating 6, headshot only). I didn’t recognoized the boy (nor Harry Potter) from this side view. Unfortunately few scenes of the boy (Robbie Kay). Set in 1914 or 1915. Scenes inside starting at around 28 minutes, these pics some minutes later.

Handsome boy, good and rare striped sailor collar. Now also showing that it’s a (typical) short sailor suit and long stockings.

I’m still searching for my unknown Italian movie and I have searched all movies back to 1979. I will maybe search until the mid 60s as I’m sure it’s a movie in color. Not much hope though. Perhaps it’s a rare TV movie and not on DVD.

I’m currently very busy and don’t have much movies to post (especially no Heimatfilms or Lederhosen movies). Maybe I already have most of them.

Suggestions are appreciated.

Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 hours 11 minutes

Comedy film starring Gert Fröbe
Year: 1965
Year in film: 1910
Country: UK
Who in clothing: boys ~7-11, sailor suit
Who in clothing 2: girls, women, men, bathing costumes, overalls
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Clothing occurence: low *
Rating:  4/10?
Rating: ****
Comment: At least 4 boys in sailor suit. Also girls and women in sailor dresses or similar. Men and women in bathing costumes, men in blue and brown overalls and other historical clothes. Hundreds of supporting actors but mainly from a distance. Rather few and short scenes of the boys in sailor suits. But I only have checked it at high speed. 138 minutes.

Pic 1 is a Dover beach scene at 59 minutes. 2 young boys in short white sailor suit, blue and light blue collar. Front view only from a distance. Woman and men in bathing costumes, also in the water.

Pic 2 is a young darkhaired boy in a white sailor suit and white collar and cap. Looks like a very short sailor suit and black stockings (or is this a shadow ?) scene at 20 min. Some other kids in different suits but without a collar.

Pic 3 a girl (looks like a boy). I don’t remember the position. Pic 4 an older boy with dark culrs in a white sailor suit (thick blue stripe) and white collar and cap at 2h10.

Good but typical period film of the 1960s. Interesting clothes but rather few sailor suit scenes. Only one and brief scene of regular blue collars.

So rating 4 only. Not much more for the movie itself. Not bad and funny but I prefer other movies.

Edward the Seventh

Family biography series, 13 ep
Year: 1975
Year in film: ~1875
Country: UK
Who in clothing: Prince Eddy, George, sailor suit
Who in clothing 2: boys suits, woman sailor dress
Available on DVD: yes
I own: no
Clothing occurence: very low
Rating:  4/10
Rating: ****
Comment: 2 boys in white sailor suits and blue collars. I think they are Jerome and Christopher Watts as Prince Eddy (Albert Victor *1864 ?) and Prince George (George V. *1865) . Very brief scene in ep 7 Dearest Prince. This headshot and from a distance. Also this and other boys in regular suits in ep 2 and a lady in a white sailor dress, blue collar in ep 12.

I found it during research for more Alexei Tsarevich Romanov movies. He should starring in here (played by Bruce Purchase) but I haven’t found him. Born in 1938 he’s too old, maybe it’s Alexander III. IMDb entries are getting more and more wrong.

Boys are quite handsome at least the one on the left.

Brief scene so rating 4-5 only.  Aka “Edward the King”

I also have updated my previous entry (Unsere Geschichte, smooth finish Lederhosen).

Other Voices, Other Rooms

Drama, novel by Truman Capote
-Year: 1995
-Year in film: 1930s, (1920s)
-Country: USA, UK
-Who in clothing: Joel ~13, sailor suit
-Who in clothing 2: teen girl overalls
-Available on DVD: yes
-I own: no
-Clothing occurence: low ?
-Rating: 6/10 ?
-Rating: ******
-Comment: I think David Speck (“The Client”) in a long white sailor suit, including white pants and a dark blue sailor collar, 3 stripes and 2 stars on the flap; no scarf and no dickey. Although there are flashback scenes set in the 1920s this scenes are more likely in the 1930s (like the overalls scenes due to his age).

How on earth could I miss these interesting scenes? I already had an entry on my overalls blog (rating even 8 for the teen girl).

Very good scenes, but I think few sailor suit scenes.

Rating 6-7 for now.
